Internal hemorrhoids

  • The Primary Sign: The most common indicator of an internal hemorrhoid is painless rectal bleeding. You might notice bright red blood on the toilet paper or in the bowl after a bowel movement.
  • Protrusion: Sometimes, an internal hemorrhoid can stretch and bulge outside the anal opening. This is known as a prolapsed hemorrhoid. These can become irritated and painful if they stay outside the body.

External hemorrhoids

  • Symptoms: You will likely experience itching, burning, or a general sense of discomfort.
  • Physical Feel: You may feel a hard, sensitive lump near the anal opening. These are often aggravated by sitting for long periods or by the friction of wiping.

Thrombosed hemorrhoids

  • Identification: These usually appear as a bluish or purple lump that is firm to the touch.
  • The Pain Factor: The pain is often sudden and severe. If you find it difficult to walk, sit, or go to the bathroom due to intense localized pain, a blood clot is a likely culprit.

Why a professional evaluation matters

It is easy to misidentify a hemorrhoid for something else, such as an anal fissure or even a skin tag. This is why a professional evaluation is the most important tool in your kit. Trying to treat a fissure with a hemorrhoid cream, for example, won’t solve the underlying problem.

Finding the right care

The identification process is just the beginning. Most hospital-based surgeons won’t see you for over a month after a diagnosis or procedure. Our protocol is built on accessibility. 11 years of experience has shown that patients recover better when they have direct access to their surgeon. We provide concierge-level service where you have 24/7 access to your doctor, ensuring that once you identify the problem, the solution is managed with your comfort as the priority.
